Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Rolling pin
  • Mixing bowls
  • Shallow dish
  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Paper towels

Ingredients

  • 6 slices of bread (white or brioche works best)
  • 6 tbsp Nutella (or as needed)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, for frying

Directions

  1. Prepare the Bread:
Remove the crusts from the bread slices and flatten each slice with a rolling pin.
  2. Add Nutella:
Spread a generous layer of Nutella on one side of each slice of bread, leaving a small border around the edges. Roll each slice tightly into a cylinder.
  3. Mix the Egg Batter:
In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine Cinnamon-Sugar:
In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  5. Cook the Rolls:
Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat and melt the butter. Dip each roll into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated, and place it seam-side down in the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown.
  6. Coat in Cinnamon-Sugar:
Immediately roll the cooked Nutella rolls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while they are still warm.
  7. Serve:
Serve warm with optional toppings like whipped cream, fresh berries, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Expert Tips

  • Prevent Leaks: Seal the edges of the rolls by pressing them gently before cooking.
  • Nutella Alternatives: Swap Nutella for peanut butter, almond butter, or fruit jam for a different flavor.
  • Crispier Texture: Use slightly stale bread for better results; it absorbs less moisture from the egg mixture.

FAQs

Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes, you can assemble the rolls a day in advance and store them in the fridge. Cook them fresh when ready to serve.

Can I air fry them?
Absolutely! Cook the rolls in a preheated air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 5-7 minutes, turning halfway through.

What bread works best?
Soft white bread or brioche is ideal, as it rolls easily and holds the filling well.

Storing & Reheating

  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheating: Reheat in a skillet over low heat or in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain crispness.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free bread to make this recipe gluten-free.
