Ingredients

For the filling
  • 6 large large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Peeled, cored, and sliced thinly
  • 1 cup sugar Can substitute with brown sugar for deeper flavor
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 pie crust pie crust (store-bought or homemade) Fits a 9-inch pie dish
  • 1 tablespoon butter Cut into small pieces for topping

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly and place them in a large bowl.
  3. Add the sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and flour to the apples. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  4. Roll out your pie crust on a lightly floured surface and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish.
  5. Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with small pieces of butter at the top.
  6. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the apple filling, cutting slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  2. Let it cool for about 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For added texture, consider adding chopped walnuts or pecans. Keep an eye on the crust during baking to prevent over-browning; tent with aluminum foil if necessary.
