Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Large pot or Dutch oven
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients Overview

  • Ground Beef: The savory base of the dish.
  • Pasta: Any short pasta like penne or rotini works well.
  • Tomatoes: Diced tomatoes and tomato sauce for a rich, flavorful base.
  • Cheese: Shredded cheddar for melty goodness.
  • Seasonings: Taco seasoning for that classic taco flavor.

Ingredients (Serves 6)

For the Pasta

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade blend)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (undrained)
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups chicken or beef broth
  • 12 oz penne or rotini pasta
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

For Garnish

  • Fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • Sour cream
  • Diced avocado

Directions

Step 1: Cook the Beef

In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is softened, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Step 2: Add the Seasonings and Liquids

Stir in the taco seasoning, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and broth. Bring to a boil.

Step 3: Cook the Pasta

Add the pasta and reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and the sauce has thickened.

Step 4: Add the Cheese

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and combined.

Step 5: Garnish & Serve

Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with sour cream and diced avocado on the side.
