Whether served as an appetizer, snack, or party favorite, they pair wonderfully with sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or your favorite dip.

Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon or small spatula
  • Small bowl (for sealing wontons)
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce (optional)
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 30-40 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing wrappers)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Directions

1. Prepare the Filling:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, green onions, garlic, soy sauce, and sugar. Mix until smooth and well blended.

2. Assemble the Wontons:

  • Lay a wonton wrapper flat on a clean surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center.

  • Fry the wontons in small batches for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.

4. Serve:

  • Serve warm with sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or a dipping sauce of your choice.

Expert Tips

  • Don’t overfill the wontons to prevent bursting during frying.
  • Keep wonton wrappers covered with a damp cloth while assembling to prevent them from drying out.
  • For a healthier option, bake the wontons at 375°F for 10-12 minutes, brushing with oil beforehand.

FAQs

Can I make these ahead?

Yes, assemble the wontons and freeze them uncooked on a baking sheet. Transfer to a freezer bag and fry directly from frozen.

What dipping sauces work best?

Sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or a honey mustard dip complement these wontons beautifully.

Can I add other ingredients to the filling?

Yes! Try adding crab meat, shredded chicken, or finely chopped vegetables for variety.

Storing & Reheating

Storing: Store cooked wontons in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating: Reheat in the oven or air fryer at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to restore crispiness.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Substitute wonton wrappers with small egg roll wrappers if needed.
  • Add a touch of sriracha or hot sauce to the filling for a spicy kick.
  • Use dairy-free cream cheese for a vegan option and bake instead of frying.
