Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Stand mixer (optional)
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • Baking sheet (9×13-inch)
  • Pastry brush
  • Small bowl

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt

For the Topping:

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried parsley or Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • Salt to taste

For Dipping:

  • Marinara sauce, garlic butter, or ranch dressing

Directions

1. Prepare the Dough:

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • Add melted butter, salt, and flour. Mix until a dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes (or 3-4 minutes in a stand mixer with a dough hook) until smooth and elastic.

2. Let the Dough Rise:

  • Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

3. Shape the Breadsticks:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking sheet.
  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle to fit the baking sheet. Place the dough on the sheet and use a knife or pizza cutter to score it into 12 breadsticks.

4. First Butter Coat:

  • Brush the dough generously with melted butter.

5. Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown on top.

6. Season and Serve:

  • While the breadsticks are warm, brush them again with melted butter. Mix Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, paprika, and salt in a small bowl. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly over the breadsticks.
  • Cut along the scored lines and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
