Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring they are fully incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the butter mixture, combining until a dough forms.
Shaping
- Take small portions of dough and shape them into finger-like forms, about 4 inches long.
- Gently press an almond at one end to resemble a fingernail. If desired, use red food coloring to create a blood effect around the almond.
Baking
- Place the shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Store Witches' Finger Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze completely cooled cookies wrapped tightly. Reheat in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 5-10 minutes to regain crispiness.
