  • 2 cups all-purpose white flour Sifted before measuring
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Standard white sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened At room temperature
  • 1 cup milk At room temperature
  • 3 large eggs At room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until fluffy and light.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk until combined, but don’t overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the greased cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting or serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or freeze slices for up to three months. Allow room temperature ingredients for smoother batter and better texture.
