Preparation
- Peel, core, and slice your apples into 1/4-inch slices.
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, flour, and salt. Toss until coated.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Place one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.
- Spoon the apple mixture into the crust, packing it down slightly. Dot filling with pieces of butter.
- Roll out the second pie crust, place it over the filling, crimp the edges, and cut slits in the top for steam to escape.
- If using an egg wash, beat the egg and brush it over the crust.
Baking
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown.
- Allow to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the microwave or oven to maintain crust crispness.
