Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground turkey Use lean ground turkey for a healthier option.
  • 1 can 15 oz kidney beans, rinsed and drained Any variety of beans can be used.
  • 1 can 15 oz diced tomatoes Fire-roasted tomatoes add extra flavor.
  • 1 onion, chopped Yellow or white onion works well.
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped Can substitute with any color bell pepper.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic gives the best flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder Adjust to taste for spiciness.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • to taste Salt and pepper Add to preference.
  • 1 cup chicken broth Vegetable broth can be used for a vegetarian version.

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. In a large pot, heat a splash of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper, cooking until they begin to soften, about 5 minutes.
  2. Push the veggies to the side of the pot and add the ground turkey. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon to ensure even cooking.
  3. Add the minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together so the spices coat the meat and vegetables.
  4. Pour in the diced tomatoes and kidney beans. Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients.
  5. Add the chicken broth, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, uncovered.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot, garnished with your favorite toppings!

Notes

For extra heat, consider adding jalapeƱos or cayenne pepper. Timing is key; be sure not to rush the simmering step for optimal flavor infusion.
