Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 block firm tofu (14 oz) Press to remove excess moisture.
  • ¼ cup soy sauce Can substitute with Tamari for gluten-free.
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by pressing the firm tofu for about 30 minutes to eliminate excess moisture. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top, such as a skillet.
  2. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, liquid smoke, maple syrup, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and nutritional yeast. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Once pressed, cut the tofu into thin slices or rectangles, depending on your preference for sandwich style.
  4. Place the tofu slices in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Make sure each piece is well-coated. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes for optimal flavor absorption.
Cooking
  1. Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated tofu slices and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  2. Once cooked, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Use your Tofu Lunch Meat in sandwiches, wraps, or enjoy it on its own with a side of your favorite dip!

Notes

For a gluten-free option, swap soy sauce with Tamari or use coconut aminos for a lower-sodium alternative. Letting the tofu marinate longer will enhance the flavor. If you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
