Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef (Halal-certified)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pieces burger buns, crumbled
  • 2 cups lettuce, chopped
  • 1 piece tomato, diced
  • 1 piece onion, sliced
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup pickles, sliced
  • Ketchup, to taste
  • Mustard, to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by washing and chopping the lettuce, dicing the tomato, and slicing the onion. Gather all your toppings and place them in bowls for easy access.
Cooking the Beef
  1. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Form the ground beef into evenly sized balls (about 4 ounces each).
  3. Season them generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Once the skillet is hot, carefully add the beef balls, spacing them out so they have room to cook.
Smashing the Burgers
  1. Using a spatula, firmly press down on each beef ball to flatten them. Let them sizzle for about 3-4 minutes until a nice crust forms on the bottom.
  2. Flip the patties, and immediately place shredded cheddar cheese on top. Allow it to melt while the other side cooks for another 3-4 minutes.
Preparing the Bowls
  1. While the beef is cooking, in a separate bowl, add the crumbled burger buns as the base.
  2. Top them with the chopped lettuce, diced tomato, sliced onions, and pickles.
Assembling the Bowls
  1. Place the freshly smashed burgers atop your dressed bun base.
  2. Drizzle with ketchup and mustard to your taste.
Serving
  1. Allow everyone to dig into their customizable bowls. Don’t forget to snap a photo for the ‘gram!

Notes

Substitutions: If you’re looking for a leaner option, turkey or chicken can work great as long as they are Halal-certified. You can also swap the beef for plant-based ground meat for a vegetarian version. Avoiding mistakes: Make sure not to overcrowd the pan while cooking the patties for that crispy edge.
