Ingredients

For the patties
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 unit egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste Salt and pepper
For the gravy
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp butter

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until just combined.
  2. Divide the beef mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about 1-inch thick.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet, cooking for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of butter and the sliced mushrooms. Sauté until the mushrooms are browned, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms, stirring to coat.
  4. Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer, allowing it to thicken slightly.
  5. Return the patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Let them simmer in the gravy for about 5 minutes, then serve hot.

Notes

For lighter options, you can use ground turkey or chicken, but adjust seasonings accordingly. Keep an eye on your patties to avoid them becoming dry; they’re best served juicy!
