Ingredients

For the Marinade
  • 1 lb beef (sirloin or flank steak, sliced thin)
  • ΒΌ cup soy sauce (choose a Halal-certified brand)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (freshly grated)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
For Cooking and Garnish
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • 1 green onion (sliced for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Mix well until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade. Ensure each piece is well-coated. Cover and let it marinate for at least 15-20 minutes; if you have more time, up to two hours in the refrigerator is better for enhanced flavor.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Allow it to sear for about 2-3 minutes before flipping. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Make sure not to overcrowd the skillet.
  3. Remove the cooked beef from the heat. Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

For best texture, slice the beef thinly against the grain. Marinating overnight intensifies flavor. Add vegetables for extra nutrition. Serve with rice or salad.
