Ingredients

For the Beef
  • 12 oz ground beef Choose a lean cut for a healthy option.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Adds depth and umami flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic brings all the flavor.
For the Rolls
  • 8 to 10 pieces rice paper wrappers Look for the thin ones specifically designed for spring rolls.
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves Essential for that aromatic flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce Crunch and freshness are key.
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots For color and sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro Adds a fresh herby note.
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce or peanut dipping sauce For that perfect finishing touch.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, soy sauce, and minced garlic. Let it marinate while you prepare everything else.
  2. In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, cook the marinated beef until it’s browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally to break up the beef as it cooks.
  3. Soak the rice paper wrappers in warm water for about 10 seconds, until they’re pliable. Lay them flat on a clean surface.
  4. Start by placing a few basil leaves, a layer of lettuce, shredded carrots, and cooked beef in the center of each wrapper.
  5. Fold the sides over the filling, then roll it up from the bottom, tucking it in tightly. Repeat with the remaining wrappers.
  6. Arrange the rolls on a serving platter and serve with hoisin or peanut dipping sauce.

Notes

Tip: Don’t soak the rice paper wrappers for too long. Consider adding sliced avocado or bell peppers as additional fillings. Experiment with sauces; a splash of sriracha or a drizzle of sweet chili sauce can elevate flavors. Practice makes perfect when rolling.
