Preparation
- Start by draining your block of firm tofu and pressing it gently between two plates or paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, maple syrup, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Whisk them together until combined.
- Once your tofu has been pressed, cut it into bite-sized cubes or rectangles.
- Add the tofu pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Let them sit for at least 15-20 minutes.
Cooking
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add the marinated tofu.
- Cook undisturbed for a few minutes, turning occasionally until golden and crispy on all sides—about 10 minutes total.
- Pour the reserved marinade into the pan and let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds over the tofu before serving.
Notes
For best results, avoid overcrowding the pan and adjust cooking time based on your stove. Customize the marinade with lemon or lime juice for a fresh twist.
