Preparation
- Wash the apples thoroughly and slice them into wedges, removing the core.
Cooking
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it begins to bubble lightly.
- Add the sliced apples to the pan, stirring gently to coat them in the melted butter. Cook for about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the apples and stir well. The sugar will begin to melt and create a caramel-like sauce.
- Pour in the water to create steam and help soften the apples. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender but not mushy.
- If using, fold in raisins or nuts during the last few minutes of cooking.
- Remove from heat and serve warm as a side dish or topping.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave. Can be frozen for up to 2 months, but texture may suffer.
