Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
Filling
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
Glaze
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk adjust for desired consistency

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Lightly flour a countertop and turn out the dough. Knead it gently for about 1-2 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough into a rectangle (about 12x8 inches).
  5. In a small bowl, mix the ground cinnamon and brown sugar together, then sprinkle evenly over the rolled-out dough.
  6. Starting from the longer side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seams to seal.
  7. Slice the log into 1-inch thick pieces. You can simply place them in a greased round baking dish or arrange them in a flower shape for a fun presentation.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.
  9. In a small bowl, mix the icing sugar with 1-2 tablespoons of milk to reach your desired consistency. Drizzle over the warm cinnamon rolls once out of the oven.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Dough consistency should be soft but not sticky. Experiment with fillings such as chopped nuts or raisins. If time permits, chill the dough for 15-30 minutes before rolling to make shaping easier. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
