Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced Choose apples that hold up well in cooking such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Can be substituted with coconut oil for a healthier option.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Optional.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by washing and peeling your apples. Slice them into even pieces for consistent cooking.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat until it foams slightly.
Cooking
  1. Toss the apple slices into the skillet, stirring to coat them with melted butter.
  2. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon over the apples, followed by the lemon juice. Stir well and cook on medium heat for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and caramelized.
  3. If using nutmeg, add it during the last couple of minutes of cooking and stir everything one final time.
Serving
  1. Serve warm over vanilla ice cream, pancakes, or on their own.

Notes

For a crunchy topping, consider adding a sprinkle of rolled oats. Avoid high heat to prevent burning and adjust cooking times to keep apples soft, not mushy. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for about three days or freeze for up to three months.
