Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 can 14.75-ounce can of salmon, drained and flaked
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (can use panko for extra crunch)
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • cooking oil for frying (optional) Use enough to cover the bottom of the skillet.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by draining the can of salmon and flaking it into a large mixing bowl. Make sure to check for any bones and remove them if desired.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, chopped onion, chopped celery, beaten egg, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the salmon. Mix until everything is well combined.
  3. Using your hands, shape the mixture into small patties (about 2-3 inches in diameter). You should aim for 6-8 patties total.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat about 1/4 inch of cooking oil over medium heat. You want it hot enough so that it sizzles when you add the patties.
  2. Carefully add the salmon patties to the skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd them. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  3. Once cooked, place the patties on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve warm, with your favorite dipping sauce!

Notes

For a healthier version, try baking the patties in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes on each side. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
