Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 large large potatoes Peel if preferred, but leaving the skin on adds texture.
  • 1 medium medium onion (optional) Slice into thin rings if using.
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • Oil for frying vegetable or canola oil Enough to cover the bottom (about 1/2 inch deep).

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by peeling the potatoes if you prefer; otherwise, rinse them under cool water and dry with a towel.
  2. Cut the potatoes into thin slices (around ΒΌ inch thick) and slice the onion into thin rings if using.
Cooking
  1. In a large frying pan, pour in enough oil to cover the bottom and heat over medium-high heat.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced potatoes in batches to avoid overcrowding. Lightly season with salt and pepper as they fry, for approximately 5-7 minutes per side until golden brown.
  3. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried potatoes and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate. If desired, sprinkle a pinch more salt on top.
Serving
  1. Enjoy your Southern Fried Potatoes as a delightful side dish that complements any meal or even as a snack on their own!

Notes

Top tips include trying garlic powder or paprika for flavor variations. Avoid overloading the frying pan to ensure they fry evenly.
