Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use fresh, high-quality flour for best results.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Ensure the butter is very cold for flaky texture.
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can substitute with milk mixed with vinegar or lemon juice.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, quickly work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center of your mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently just until the dough starts to come together, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently about 5-6 times, just until it forms a cohesive ball. Pat it into a 1-inch thick disk.
  6. Using a round biscuit cutter, cut out your biscuits and place them on a baking sheet, ensuring they are close together for soft sides. Gather the scraps, re-pat, and cut again to utilize all the dough.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and they have risen beautifully.
  8. Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with your choice of toppings!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze biscuits for up to 2 months. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for about 10 minutes.
