Ingredients
  

Dessert Base
  • 1 cup heavy cream Ensure halal-compliant
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large egg yolks

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Gather all your ingredients and measure them out.
  2. In a medium saucepan, pour 1 cup of milk and heat it over medium heat until it’s warm but not boiling.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with a little bit of cold water to form a slurry.
  4. In another bowl, beat together 2 large egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until creamy and light.
  5. Slowly add the warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to prevent the yolks from cooking.
Cooking
  1. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan. Add the cornstarch slurry and continue to stir over medium heat until it starts to thicken (about 3-5 minutes).
  2. Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Pour the mixture into dessert cups or bowls. Let it cool at room temperature before refrigerating for at least 2 hours to set.
Serving
  1. Enjoy it plain or with your choice of toppings like fresh berries, chocolate shavings, or nuts!

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream or reduced-fat alternatives. Allow the dessert to chill overnight for best results.
