Preparation
- Gather all your ingredients and measure them out.
- In a medium saucepan, pour 1 cup of milk and heat it over medium heat until it’s warm but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with a little bit of cold water to form a slurry.
- In another bowl, beat together 2 large egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until creamy and light.
- Slowly add the warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to prevent the yolks from cooking.
Cooking
- Pour the mixture back into the saucepan. Add the cornstarch slurry and continue to stir over medium heat until it starts to thicken (about 3-5 minutes).
- Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into dessert cups or bowls. Let it cool at room temperature before refrigerating for at least 2 hours to set.
Serving
- Enjoy it plain or with your choice of toppings like fresh berries, chocolate shavings, or nuts!
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream or reduced-fat alternatives. Allow the dessert to chill overnight for best results.
