Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese, fresh dill, lemon zest, and capers. Use a fork or spatula to combine until everything is evenly mixed and creamy.
  2. If using cucumbers, slice them into rounds, about half an inch thick. If you're opting for crackers, simply lay them out on a platter.
  3. On each cracker or cucumber slice, spread a small amount of the cream cheese mixture.
  4. Place a small slice of smoked salmon over the cream cheese spread.
  5. For an elegant touch, top with a sliver of red onion or a sprinkle of extra dill if desired.
  6. Enjoy them fresh, or cover and chill for 10-15 minutes if you prefer them cold.

Notes

Serve with a crisp green salad and a chilled glass of white wine or sparkling water. Can store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Assemble right before serving to maintain the crispness of the base.
