- In a mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese, fresh dill, lemon zest, and capers. Use a fork or spatula to combine until everything is evenly mixed and creamy.
- If using cucumbers, slice them into rounds, about half an inch thick. If you're opting for crackers, simply lay them out on a platter.
- On each cracker or cucumber slice, spread a small amount of the cream cheese mixture.
- Place a small slice of smoked salmon over the cream cheese spread.
- For an elegant touch, top with a sliver of red onion or a sprinkle of extra dill if desired.
- Enjoy them fresh, or cover and chill for 10-15 minutes if you prefer them cold.
Notes
Serve with a crisp green salad and a chilled glass of white wine or sparkling water. Can store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Assemble right before serving to maintain the crispness of the base.
