  • 1 French baguette French baguette (sliced into ½-inch rounds) Alternatively, use a box of crackers.
  • to taste Fresh dill (optional, for garnish) Adds fresh flavor.
  • to taste Capers (optional, for added flavor) Optional, but recommended for a burst of flavor.
  • as needed Lemon wedges (for serving) Serve on the side for extra zest.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) if using a baguette.
  2. Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast them for about 5-7 minutes, until golden and crispy.
Assembling the Canapés
  1. In a small bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Optionally, mix in some fresh dill for extra flavor.
  2. Once the baguette slices have cooled slightly, spread a generous layer of cream cheese on each slice or cracker.
  3. Top each canapé with a slice of smoked salmon, folding or rolling the salmon for added flair if desired.
  4. Garnish with capers or a small sprig of dill on top of the salmon.
  5. Arrange the canapés on a serving platter and add lemon wedges on the side.
  6. Serve immediately, or chill for a short period before serving.

Notes

Leftover canapés are best stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. For optimal crispness, store the cream cheese and smoked salmon separately if enjoying later. Avoid freezing as textures may degrade.
