Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) if using a baguette.
- Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast them for about 5-7 minutes, until golden and crispy.
Assembling the Canapés
- In a small bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Optionally, mix in some fresh dill for extra flavor.
- Once the baguette slices have cooled slightly, spread a generous layer of cream cheese on each slice or cracker.
- Top each canapé with a slice of smoked salmon, folding or rolling the salmon for added flair if desired.
- Garnish with capers or a small sprig of dill on top of the salmon.
- Arrange the canapés on a serving platter and add lemon wedges on the side.
- Serve immediately, or chill for a short period before serving.
Notes
Leftover canapés are best stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. For optimal crispness, store the cream cheese and smoked salmon separately if enjoying later. Avoid freezing as textures may degrade.
