Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 pound fresh or frozen pierogies Your choice of filling
  • 1 pound sliced sausage Any preferred type
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth Use vegetable broth for a vegetarian option
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • to taste salt Be cautious if using pre-seasoned sausage
Optional toppings
  • sour cream
  • chopped green onions
  • fresh herbs

Method

Preparation
  1. Slice your sausage and chop the onion. If using frozen pierogies, there's no need to thaw them.
Cooking
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and cook the chopped onion until translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Transfer the sautéed onions to your slow cooker. Add in the sliced sausage, pierogies, broth, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Stir everything together until well mixed.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4-6 hours, or high for 2-3 hours.
  4. Once the pierogies are tender and the sausage is heated through, serve hot with optional toppings.

Notes

Ingredient substitutions can include chicken sausage or vegetarian alternatives. Adjust cooking time as needed but prefer low for best flavor. Taste before adding more salt to avoid over-seasoning.
