Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour for structure
  • ½ cup granulated sugar for that sweet goodness
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened for richness
  • 1 large egg binds the dough
  • 1 tsp baking powder for a lovely rise
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract for flavor
  • a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness
Optional Toppings
  • chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar for added flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Forming & Baking
  1. Take a small piece of dough and shape it into a long rope, about 1/2 inch thick. Twist it gently and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. If you’re adding chocolate chips or nuts, gently press them into each twist.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Once out of the oven, let the twists cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
