Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4-6 medium Potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup Heavy cream For the rich, velvety sauce
  • 2 cups Shredded cheese Cheddar, Gruyere, or your favorite blend
  • 4 tablespoons Butter To grease and add richness
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper To taste
Optional Toppings
  • Breadcrumbs For a crunchy topping
  • Fresh herbs Such as parsley or chives for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes using a mandoline or sharp knife for even cooking.
  3. In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Pour in the heavy cream and stir in half of the shredded cheese, alongside salt and pepper. Allow the sauce to heat until cheese melts.
Assembly and Baking
  1. On a greased baking sheet, arrange a layer of potato slices to form a rectangle. Drizzle some cream sauce and sprinkle cheese on top. Continue layering until ingredients are exhausted, leaving some sauce for the top.
  2. Carefully lift one end of the potatoes and start rolling from one side until you form a tight roll. Pinch the ends to seal.
  3. Place the potato roll seam-side down in the baking dish and pour remaining cream sauce over it. Top with remaining cheese and breadcrumbs if using.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-50 minutes, or until golden and bubbling.
  5. Allow it to cool slightly before slicing into generous servings.

Notes

For perfect results, ensure potato slices are uniform to promote even cooking. Experiment with different cheeses to create unique flavors, and consider adding herbs and spices for additional depth.
