Ingredients

For the Beef Marinate
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce make sure it's halal
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 lb ground beef (Halal-certified)
For the Tacos
  • 8 small tortillas (corn or flour)
  • 1 cup lettuce, shredded
  • ½ cup carrots, julienned
  • ¼ cup green onions, chopped
  • ¼ cup cilantro, chopped
  • to taste fresh lime wedges for serving

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, brown sugar, and black pepper. Whisk it together until well mixed.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the ground beef and pour the marinade over it. Mix until the beef is well coated in the marinade. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Cooking
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for about 7-10 minutes until browned and fully cooked, stirring occasionally.
  2. While the beef cooks, heat the tortillas in a separate pan for about 30 seconds on each side until warm and pliable.
Assembly
  1. Spoon the savory beef mixture into the warm tortillas and top with shredded lettuce, julienned carrots, chopped green onions, and cilantro.
  2. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the filled tacos and enjoy them while they’re hot!

Notes

You can swap the ground beef for ground chicken or turkey. Allow the beef to marinate for at least 30 minutes for better flavor absorption. Avoid overcrowding the skillet when cooking the beef.
