Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 1 pound Ground chicken or shrimp Ensure Halal compliance
  • 1 cup Finely chopped vegetables (options: carrots, cabbage, or mushrooms)
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, freshly grated
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • Fresh herbs (cilantro or mint)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Wrapping
  • 10-12 pieces Rice paper wrappers

Method

Prepare the Filling
  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken or shrimp with the finely chopped vegetables.
  2. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly distributed.
Soak the Rice Paper
  1. Fill a large shallow bowl with warm water.
  2. Quickly dip each rice paper wrapper into the water for about 10-15 seconds, just until it becomes pliable but not too soft. Lay it flat on a damp surface.
Fill the Dumplings
  1. Place a spoonful of the filling mixture in the center of the soaked rice paper.
  2. Fold the sides over the filling and roll it up like a burrito. Ensure the edges are sealed tightly to avoid any filling escaping during cooking.
Cook the Dumplings
  1. You can either steam, pan-fry, or boil the dumplings.
  2. If steaming, place them in a bamboo steamer lined with parchment paper for about 10 minutes.
  3. If pan-frying, heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are golden brown.
Serve and Enjoy
  1. Serve hot with dipping sauces like soy sauce or chili sauce, and enjoy your homemade Rice Paper Dumplings!

Notes

Substitutions: Feel free to substitute the ground meat with tofu or a mix of vegetables for a vegetarian version. Avoid soaking the rice paper too long; they should be soft but not mushy. If you have leftovers, refrigerate them for up to 2 days or freeze for up to two months.
