Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Mix Base Ingredients
- In a bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until well combined. Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until smooth.
Combine Dry Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined—don’t over mix!
Bake
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, smoothing it out evenly. Bake in the oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean (or with a few moist crumbs attached). Allow cooling completely.
Make the Cream Cheese Frosting
- In a mixing bowl, beat together softened cream cheese and butter until creamy. Add the vanilla extract, followed by powdered sugar and milk as needed to reach a smooth, spreadable consistency.
Frost and Serve
- Once the brownies are cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting on top. Cut them into squares and serve!
