Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour The backbone of any great biscuit.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder To give them that lovely rise.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt A must for flavor!
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (cold, diced) For that rich, buttery taste.
  • 3/4 cup milk The binding ingredient that brings it all together.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and let it heat up while you prepare the dough.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the cold, diced butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk and stir gently until a dough forms. Be careful not to overmix—lumps are perfectly fine!
  5. Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out. Gently knead the dough about 5-6 times until it holds together.
  6. Roll the dough to about 1-inch thickness and use a biscuit cutter (or a glass) to cut out rounds. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure they’re close together.
  7. Put your biscuits in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Resist the temptation to peek too soon!
  8. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving warm, perhaps with a drizzle of honey or a pat of butter.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter is cold. Consider substituting half the milk with buttermilk for extra tang. Avoid overmixing to prevent tough biscuits.
