Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin spice
  • 1/4 cup milk warm milk for activating yeast
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
Filling Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Icing Ingredients (Optional)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese optional for icing

Method

Preparation
  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, pumpkin spice, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix pumpkin puree, softened butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Add the yeast mixture once it's frothy.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Slowly incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry mixture until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the Dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Prepare Filling: Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle. Spread with softened butter and sprinkle with brown sugar and more pumpkin spice.
  2. Roll and Cut: Carefully roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it into 12 even slices.
  3. Bake: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Icing (Optional): While rolls are baking, mix powdered sugar with cream cheese (if using) and some water or milk to create a creamy icing. Drizzle over the warm rolls.

Notes

For perfect rolls, let the dough rise in a warm environment. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in microwave or oven.
