Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour For the main dough
  • 1/4 cup sugar To sweeten the dough
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon For flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg For flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt To balance sweetness
  • 1/2 cup warm milk To activate yeast
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree Adds moisture and flavor
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted For richness
  • 1 large egg Helps bind ingredients
Frosting
  • 1 cup powdered sugar For sweetness in frosting
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened Base for the frosting
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract Adds flavor to the frosting
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk To adjust frosting consistency

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes bubbly.
  2. Add pumpkin puree, melted butter, and egg to the mixture and mix well.
Combining Ingredients
  1. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture until you form a soft dough.
Kneading and Rising
  1. On a floured countertop, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  2. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Rolling and Filling
  1. After rising, punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread a thin layer of melted butter over the surface.
  2. Mix 1/4 cup of sugar with 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and sprinkle it evenly over the dough.
  3. Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other.
Baking
  1. Slice the rolled dough into 1-inch thick sections and place them in a greased baking dish.
  2. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
Frosting Preparation
  1. While the rolls are baking, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Adjust milk for desired consistency.
Serving
  1. Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool for a few minutes before generously spreading the cream cheese frosting over the top.
  2. Serve warm!

Notes

For a healthier option, swap half of the all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour or use almond milk. Ensure the yeast is active for the best texture, and avoid overbaking to keep them moist. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
