  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 2 apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup of chopped nuts (optional)

Preparation
  1. Begin by cubing your bread slices into bite-sized pieces and placing them in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until fully blended.
  3. Pour the custard mixture over the cubed bread, making sure every piece is coated. Add the diced apples and nuts, gently folding them into the mixture.
  4. Spoon the mixture into a greased baking dish, cover it with plastic wrap, and place it in the refrigerator overnight.
  5. The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the cover from the baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.
  6. Once baked, let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup and relish!

Notes

Top Tips: Use day-old bread for the best texture. You can mix in other fruits like pears or berries. Add a pinch of nutmeg or ginger for more flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for a month.
