Ingredients

For the Cookies
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure it's at room temperature for easy creaming.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature is best for mixing.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Spoon into measuring cup and level it off.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons freshly grated orange zest Zest from about 1 orange.
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chunks Use semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, ensuring everything is well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients, stirring until just blended.
  5. Gently fold in the orange zest and dark chocolate chunks until evenly distributed.
  6. Drop rounded balls of cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each for spreading.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers remain soft.
  2. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
