Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with turkey or plant-based meat.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns Lightly toasted.
  • 1 cup marinara sauce For topping.
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Add during the last minutes of cooking.
Optional Toppings
  • pepperoni slices For extra flavor.
  • sliced olives
  • diced bell peppers
  • fresh basil

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly but do not overwork the meat.
  3. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties, making a small indentation in the center of each.
Cooking
  1. Grill or pan-fry your patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until the meat reaches your desired doneness. Add mozzarella cheese on top during the last couple of minutes, covering with a lid to melt.
  2. While the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
Assembly
  1. Place the burgers on the toasted buns, spoon marinara sauce on top, and finish with any optional toppings you desire.
  2. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave for 30-45 seconds or on a skillet over low heat.
