Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) to get that baking magic started.
- Prepare the pie crust: If you’re using a store-bought crust, simply place it in a 9-inch pie dish, crimping the edges. If making from scratch, roll it out and fit it into the dish.
- Whisk together the eggs and sugar in a large mixing bowl until well combined.
- Add the milk, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and salt to the egg mixture. Stir until completely blended.
- Pour the custard mixture into the prepared pie crust.
Baking
- Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven.
- Then, reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly wobbly.
- Cool completely before serving. Custard pies are better when chilled.
Notes
Pair with freshly whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze individual slices for longer storage.
