Ingredients

For the Pie Crust
  • 1 9-inch pre-made pie crust store-bought or homemade
For the Custard Filling
  • 4 large eggs use room temperature for better emulsification
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg can substitute with cinnamon
  • pinch salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) to get that baking magic started.
  2. Prepare the pie crust: If you’re using a store-bought crust, simply place it in a 9-inch pie dish, crimping the edges. If making from scratch, roll it out and fit it into the dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs and sugar in a large mixing bowl until well combined.
  4. Add the milk, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and salt to the egg mixture. Stir until completely blended.
  5. Pour the custard mixture into the prepared pie crust.
Baking
  1. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven.
  2. Then, reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly wobbly.
  3. Cool completely before serving. Custard pies are better when chilled.

Notes

Pair with freshly whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze individual slices for longer storage.
