Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Essential for the bread structure.
  • 1/4 teaspoon instant yeast For leavening the bread.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1 1/2 cups water At room temperature.
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs Use rosemary or thyme for best flavor.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Adds a rich garlic flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, and salt. Stir well.
  2. Pour in the water along with the minced garlic and chopped herbs. Mix until just combined.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let it rest at room temperature for 12-18 hours.
  4. An hour before baking, preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) with the Dutch oven inside.
  5. Flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. Shape it into a ball without overworking it.
  6. Cover the dough with a towel and let it rest while the oven heats up.
  7. Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven, place the dough inside (you may line it with parchment paper), cover it, and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  9. Transfer the bread to a wire rack and let it cool before slicing.

Notes

You can interchange herbs with oregano or basil for a different flavor profile. Allow enough time for the dough to rise for maximum flavor development.
