Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, melt the unsalted butter. Add the granulated sugar and mix until fully incorporated.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until well blended.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Carefully fold in the chocolate chips, setting aside a few for topping.
Baking
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- While the brownies are baking, mix the cream cheese and powdered sugar in a bowl until smooth and creamy.
- Remove the brownies from the oven and pour the cream cheese mixture on top, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips on top.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cream cheese layer is just set.
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For a dairy-free option, use a dairy-free butter substitute and vegan cream cheese. Keep an eye on baking time for the cream cheese layer to ensure a silky texture.
