Ingredients

Cake and Coating
  • 1 box cake mix (your favorite flavor)
  • 1 cup frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup vanilla candy coating for coating the cake pops
  • as needed food coloring (green, black, red) to achieve the desired eye effect
  • as needed candy eyes for decorating the cake pops
  • as needed lollipop sticks to hold the cake pops

Method

Preparation
  1. Prep the cake box mix according to package instructions and bake it in a preheated oven.
  2. Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely.
  3. Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
  4. Gradually mix in the frosting until the mixture is moist and can be rolled into balls.
  5. Shape the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  6. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
Coating and Decorating
  1. Melt the vanilla candy coating in a microwave-safe bowl and add food coloring.
  2. Remove the cake balls from the refrigerator, insert lollipop sticks, and dip them into the candy coating.
  3. Before the coating hardens, place candy eyes on each pop.
  4. Optionally, drizzle red edible gel to mimic blood.
  5. Allow the cake pops to set until the coating is firm, around one hour.

Notes

For added flavor, substitute frosting with a cream cheese blend. Allow for adequate cooling to prevent pops from falling off the sticks. Decorated variations can use different colored candy coatings for various festive themes.
