Method
Preparation
- Prep the cake box mix according to package instructions and bake it in a preheated oven.
- Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely.
- Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
- Gradually mix in the frosting until the mixture is moist and can be rolled into balls.
- Shape the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
Coating and Decorating
- Melt the vanilla candy coating in a microwave-safe bowl and add food coloring.
- Remove the cake balls from the refrigerator, insert lollipop sticks, and dip them into the candy coating.
- Before the coating hardens, place candy eyes on each pop.
- Optionally, drizzle red edible gel to mimic blood.
- Allow the cake pops to set until the coating is firm, around one hour.
Notes
For added flavor, substitute frosting with a cream cheese blend. Allow for adequate cooling to prevent pops from falling off the sticks. Decorated variations can use different colored candy coatings for various festive themes.
