Ingredients

For the Dumpling Filling
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/4 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pack wonton wrappers
For the Soup
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup carrots, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup celery, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine the ground pork, shrimp, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well and set aside.
  2. Take a wonton wrapper and place about a teaspoon of the meat mixture in the center. Fold and seal the wrapper to create a dumpling, repeating until all the filling is used.
Cooking the Soup
  1. In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Carefully add the dumplings to the boiling broth and cook for about 5 minutes or until they float to the top.
  3. Stir in the carrots, celery, soy sauce, and sesame oil, allowing the mixture to simmer for another 5 minutes.
  4. Once everything is well combined, ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with chopped green onions.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute ground chicken or turkey for pork. Ensure not to overcrowd the pot when adding dumplings to cook them evenly. Don't skip on the seasoning for enhanced flavors.
