Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
Baking
- Place the meatballs in a baking dish and bake them in the oven for about 20 minutes, or until they are fully cooked through.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare your bread or hollowed-out zucchini boats.
Assembly
- Once the meatballs are done, place them inside the bread or zucchini, topping each with marinara sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
- Return the assembled boats to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Take them out of the oven, let them cool slightly, and serve warm.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For freezing, wrap each boat tightly before placing them in a freezer-safe bag. Reheat in the microwave or oven, covering with foil to prevent drying out.
