Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1 cup rolled oats Use old-fashioned rolled oats for best results.
  • 2 cups milk of choice (dairy, almond, oat, or coconut) Choose your preferred type of milk.
  • 1 ripe banana, sliced
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt Optional to add extra for creaminess.
  • 1/4 cup mixed nuts (such as almonds, walnuts, or pecans) Substitute with seeds for a nut-free version.
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup Optional for sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds For added nutrients.
  • a pinch cinnamon For enhanced flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the rolled oats, milk, Greek yogurt, and chia seeds until well combined.
  2. If you prefer your oats to have a touch of sweetness, add honey or maple syrup to the mixture. Stir until evenly distributed.
  3. In a mason jar, start by adding a layer of the oat mixture, followed by a few slices of banana and a sprinkle of nuts. Repeat this process to create layers until the jar is full.
  4. Top off with a pinch of cinnamon on the last layer to enhance the flavor.
  5. Seal the mason jar lid tightly and place it in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or ideally overnight, for the oats to soak and flavors to meld together.
  6. The next morning, simply grab your jar, give it a good shake (if desired), and dig in! You can also add extra banana slices or nuts if you wish.

Notes

Mason jar overnight oats can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. They can be enjoyed cold or microwaved for about 30 seconds before serving for a warm option. Feel free to customize with different fruits and nuts based on preference.
