Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter For melting.
  • 10 oz mini marshmallows Main ingredient for the treat.
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal Add crunch to the treats.
Coloring and Decoration
  • Yellow gelatin For coloring and flavor.
  • Red or pink food coloring Optional.
  • Chocolate or candy melts For decoration.
  • Wax paper For shaping the treats.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Be sure to stir it occasionally to avoid burning.
  2. Once the butter has melted, add the mini marshmallows to the pan. Stir continuously until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and gently fold in the Rice Krispies cereal. Mix until all the cereal is well coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  4. If desired, add a few drops of yellow gelatin or food coloring to give your mixture a spooky hue, folding it in until well combined.
  5. On a piece of wax paper, press the mixture into brain-shaped molds or form small brain-like shapes with your hands.
  6. Allow the shaped treats to cool and set for about 10-15 minutes.
  7. Drizzle melted chocolate or candy melts over the cooled treats to create the 'veins' for a more realistic brain look.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, wrap in plastic and freeze for up to a month.
