Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes with a hand mixer.
  4. Beat in the egg, followed by the maple syrup and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined; do not overmix.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
  4. Dust the top with powdered sugar once cooled.

Notes

For best results, avoid overmixing the batter. Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
