Ingredients

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup mashed ripe bananas Use very ripe bananas for sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup protein powder Feel free to experiment with flavors such as vanilla or chocolate.
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch salt salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, unsweetened applesauce, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mix is smooth.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the protein powder, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well mixed.
  4. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Remember, over-mixing can lead to tough brownies!
  5. Pour your brownie batter into a greased 8×8-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes. The brownies are done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan before cutting them into squares.

Notes

Store brownies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or in the freezer for up to three months. Reheat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds for best texture. Consider adding mini dark chocolate chips or chopped walnuts for extra crunch.
