Ingredients

For the marinade
  • 1 lb beef (ribeye or sirloin), thinly sliced Slice the beef as thinly as possible.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil For cooking
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 green onions, chopped green onions For garnish
  • Sesame seeds For garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and black pepper. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade. Ensure every piece is coated. Allow it to marinate for at least 15-30 minutes.
  3. In a large skillet or grill pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the marinated beef (do not overcrowd the skillet) and sliced onions to the pan. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, flipping the beef pieces occasionally until cooked through and caramelized.
  5. Once cooked, sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice or in lettuce wraps for an extra crunch!

Notes

Substitutions: If ribeye or sirloin isn’t available, flank steak or any other tender cut of beef works beautifully. For a lighter option, substitute beef with chicken or firm tofu. Timing is key; don’t skip the marination step for optimal flavor.
