Ingredients

Biscuit and Gravy Components
  • 1 package refrigerated biscuit dough (16 oz)
  • 1 pound halal breakfast sausage
  • 2 cups milk
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Optional Toppings
  • shredded cheese For garnish
  • chopped green onions For garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven according to the biscuit package instructions. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Cooking the Sausage
  1. In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook the halal breakfast sausage until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Making the Gravy
  1. Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage, stir for about a minute, and gradually whisk in the milk. Add the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the mixture thickens, approximately 3–5 minutes.
Layering the Casserole
  1. Cut the refrigerated biscuit dough into quarters and layer half of it in the prepared baking dish.
  2. Pour half of the sausage gravy over the biscuits in the dish. Repeat with the remaining biscuit quarters and gravy.
Baking
  1. Place the assembled casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 25–30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the gravy is bubbling.
Serving
  1. Remove from the oven and add optional toppings like shredded cheese or chopped green onions if desired. Serve warm!

Notes

Feel free to substitute the halal sausage with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option or add sautéed vegetables like bell peppers and spinach for extra flavor and nutrition. Ensure that you whisk your gravy well to avoid lumps. If the gravy is too thick, adjust the consistency with a little extra milk. Keep an eye on your casserole towards the end of the baking time to avoid overbaking.
