For the cake
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cups honey Can be substituted with maple syrup.
  • 1 cups granulated sugar Adjust down if substituting honey with maple syrup.
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened Ensure it's softened, not melted.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cups fresh orange juice

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add in the honey, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  4. Incorporate the orange zest and fresh orange juice into the wet mixture, stirring gently to combine.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, decorate as desired and enjoy!

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt. For longer storage, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for up to a week. Warm a slice in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds for a delicious treat.
