Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour For the base of the strudel.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Keep the butter cold for a flaky texture.
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar Adds a touch of sweetness to the dough.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavor.
  • 5 tablespoons cold water To bring the dough together.
For the Filling
  • 1 cup fresh fruit (e.g., strawberries, blueberries, or apples, chopped) Choose your favorite fruit for filling.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (optional, to sweeten fruit) Optional, adjust based on fruit sweetness.
For the Frosting
  • 1 cup powdered sugar For drizzling on top.
  • 2 tablespoons milk To thin the frosting.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) For added flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional) For extra spice.

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add in the cold cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add the cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
Make the Filling
  1. While the dough chills, prepare your fruit filling. Sauté apples slightly with some sugar and cinnamon if using, or chop berries and mix with sugar if desired.
Roll Out the Dough
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about a 1/8-inch thickness.
  2. Cut into rectangles that are approximately 4x6 inches, leaving enough space between each piece.
Assemble the Strudels
  1. Place a tablespoon of fruit filling in the center of each rectangle. Fold the dough over and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
  2. Cut a few small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
Bake
  1. Place the strudels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Prepare Frosting
  1. In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over the warm strudels before serving.

Notes

Customizable with seasonal fruits; seal edges well to avoid spills during baking. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze unbaked strudels for up to 2 months.
